Frameworks / IFB / RTE (2000) A short 3D film directed by Eoghan Kidney (fellow filmmaker and friend). I worked as lead animator for the male character on a fairly grueling short schedule that involved re learning 3dsMax on the job. The whole film was shot as live action for animation reference then we tried to push FX shots and scene setups in 3D on computers that back then barely had the processing power to manage it. All the hard work paid off, it was a great project to work onThe film stars two up and coming young actors of the time - Ruth Nega and Domhnall Gleeson. Its a somewhat downbeat subject for animation yet such a beautifully somber film that is helped by some great visuals matched with solid acting and immersive audio. This was our first foray into short filmmaking since leaving college and forming the collective known as Delicious 9. Stars won best animation at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2000 and went on to win awards at several international film festivals. Animated in 3dsMax, textures created in Photoshop, compositing in After Effects and edit in Premiere. |
